SACRED LIFE

I am here to help you reflect on your life, disrupt your comfortable routines in order to challenge the status quo so you can make positive changes. In other words, I help you wake up to your life.

It is so easy to fall asleep to your life and put off dealing with longstanding issues that defy simple solutions.

You let things go and focus your time and energy on what is working. Eventually those neglected areas begin to cause problems you can no longer avoid.

When this breakdown happens you find yourself scrolling through therapist’s websites or talking to friends about your depression, your relationship problems, or how you feel lost and uncertain about what to do to get your life back on track.

It’s time to wake up and stop ignoring the problem areas of your life. It’s time to commit to living with love (compassion), wisdom (curiosity), and integrity (courage). It’s time to wake up!

The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind. - William James

Hi, I’m Reb Buxton, M.A. I have been a therapist for over 21 years. I have written two self-help books and participated in more than 15,000 sessions. It would be my honor and privilege to work with you.

What if your mind was your greatest asset? What if it didn’t sabotage you with pessimistic thoughts about your body, your salary, or feelings of unworthiness? What if your mind worked for you?

It is important to understand that every action you take is to make some part of yourself happy. However, when you make one part of yourself happy you inevitably alienate other parts. This internal conflict causes stress, anxiety and depression and decreases your happiness . . . until you understand that your mind has many parts and how to work with those parts.

The controversial idea that everything you do is to make yourself happy is the basis of The Hard Work Of Happiness. Yet, if everything you do is aimed at making yourself happy then why do you so often find yourself unhappy?

We all know that some degree of suffering is unavoidable. Ironically, the more we try and escape this fate the more suffering we create. There are two types of suffering: unnecessary and sacred. An example of unnecessary suffering is when you mindlessly repeat the same mistakes over and over. You get caught in a negative loop and refuse to consider that your own mind might be the culprit in this unhealthy cycle.

Conversely, sacred suffering has a purpose. If you must suffer it would benefit you to eliminate as much unnecessary suffering as possible. This will leave you with sacred suffering. The purpose of sacred suffering is to give you an opportunity to rewrite your tragedies with more hopeful endings and prevent as many negative, happy zapping experiences from happening in the future as possible.

Listen is part psychological journey and part spiritual quest. It is a guide for how to listen to your intuitive wisdom. It offers instructions for how to solve any problem while taking you on a journey to the wild edges of human experience. The common thread on every page is that the best way to love yourself is by authentically and courageously listening to yourself.

Listen teaches a method of connecting to your intuitive wisdom called The Transformational Path. This practice is based on the virtues of love, wisdom, and integrity. Learning to walk this path will lead to a deeper, more authentic, and lasting inner peace.
